Our Work with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel
At Varnamo of Sweden, we take a long-term approach to developing bedding textiles, with a focus on quality, comfort, and responsibility. As part of our ongoing sustainability efforts, we have chosen to commit to the Nordic Swan Ecolabel—the official ecolabel of the Nordic region.
As of February 2, 2026, we hold both a manufacturer license and a product license for the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. This means that our operations and our Nordic Swan-labeled products must meet strict requirements regarding materials, chemicals, environmental impact, and quality.
For us, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel represents another step in our commitment to developing products with care for both people and the environment.
Requirements for Nordic Swan-labeled Products
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel includes, among others, the following requirements:
- Fibers must be organic, recycled, or derived from renewable raw materials that meet specific environmental criteria.
- Compliance with the International Labour Organization (ILO) fundamental conventions on labor rights.
- Environmental and health-related requirements for chemicals used in textile production.

Sustainable Management of Unsold Nordic Swan-labeled Goods
We work continuously to minimize waste in our manufacturing processes and to take responsibility for products that do not meet the criteria for sale at full price. In line with the requirements of the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, these products are handled in a way that prioritizes and enables their continued use and reuse. Products that do not meet the criteria for standard sale, yet remain fully functional, are sold as "seconds" (second-quality items) in our own factory shop and on our website.
Products that fail to meet the criteria for standard sale—and also do not qualify to be sold as seconds—are donated to charity, ensuring they are put to good use rather than going to waste.
Quality Monitoring
Our goal is for our products to be used for as long as possible. We therefore continuously monitor quality and implement production improvements to reduce the number of items that must be classified as seconds.
Our Nordic Swan Ecolabelled Products
In 2026, we are launching our first range of Nordic Swan Ecolabelled bed linen. The collection includes pillowcases, flat sheets, and fitted sheets made from 100% organic cotton with a thread count of 250 TC.
Available in both sateen and percale, these products combine comfort and quality with the rigorous standards required for the Nordic Swan Ecolabel.
